WEST KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA

West Kelowna, also known as Westside or Westbank, is a city in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. This city is made up of several neighbourhoods such as Glenrosa, Shannon Lake, Case Loma, Rose Valley, Smith Creek, Gellatly, Lakeview Heights, Peachland, Westbank, and West Kelowna Estates. As of 2021, the city has an estimated population of about 38,300.

The city is a thriving city that has a mix of rural and urban settings, making it a perfect spot for outdoor recreation. It was incorporated in 2007 as Westside District Municipal. However, in 2009, the municipality was renamed West Kelowna, and it maintains this name to this day. It became a city in 2015 and it is still known by different names including Westside, Greater Westside, and Westbank.

The Mount Boucherie Community Centre includes Jim Lind Arena for ice sports clubs such as figure skating, ringette, and hockey; and Royal LePage Place arena, home to the BCHL team, the West Kelowna Warriors. There is a walking trail alongside Gellatly Road and multiple swimming areas along Okanagan Lake. Another nice place to visit in the city is Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre which offers indoor swimming and other recreational programmes. There are healthcare centres, groceries stores, schools for children, etc.

EDUCATION IN WEST KELOWNA

The only high school in the municipal is Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School, which serves grades 9 to 12. The two middle schools in the area are Glenrosa Middle School and Neil Bruce Middle School, serving grades 6 to 8. There are nine elementary schools, which include Glenrosa Elementary School, Helen Gorman, Chief Tomat, Shannon Lake, Mar Jok, Rose Valley, and Hudson Road. There are also private schools for those who prefer to use private schools for their kids.

The University of British Columbia has a campus in Kelowna, and Okanagan College is also located in Kelowna.
